About KAYA
The folk tunes of KAYA float on melody and rhythm, synthesizing the rich lyrics. The music of KAYA spreads the flavor of life with the tunes of bamboo flute blending the strumming of dotara and rhythm of ganjira into the deep beats of the madol.
Folk fusion band KAYA, started their musical journey in the year 2002. From the very begining, their motto was to enrich the heritage and culture of Indian folk music. And apart from this, another aim was to introduce the flavour of Bengali folk song, in front of the world.
KAYA’s range of music is very vast indeed. Starting from the ancient origin of folk music to the modern folk arena, KAYA’s experimentation is uniqe. Till today KAYA has 6 folk albums. Their folk songs like “Jigija Gijang”, “Faguner Din”, “Sha na na”, and many others have been largely appreciated by the audience. In their last two albums, “Kaya Lok”, released in 2008 and “Baulia”, released in 2009, KAYA has exlusively worked upon the ancient traditional folk songs of India. in their songs, the rare and rich folk instruments like ‘Ektara’, ‘Dotara’, ‘Ganjira’, ’Khol’, ‘Dhol’, ‘Gubgubi’, ‘Bamboo Flute’, etc. have been largely used.
KAYA’s music is a magical expression of folk - a unique quality that tells a tale of real life with a great listening pleasure.
